After numerous SMD component soldering tests, I can say that a good 50% of issues stem from the presence of short circuits.
Of this 50%, 45% is caused by issues arising from screen printing, while the remaining 5% is caused by Pick and Place machine mounting problems.
To minimize these issues, it’s necessary to pay close attention to the screen printing phase.
The “simplest way to reduce this problem is” to use screen printing machines with automatic solder paste deposit control.
This way we can monitor both the presence of short circuits and the effective presence of solder paste on the printed board.
